How it works
Effluent Study and Wastewater Analysis
The process begins with understanding the type of wastewater generated by the industry. Effluent samples may be reviewed for important parameters such as pH, BOD, COD, TSS, oil and grease, colour, odor, chemical content, heavy metals, and other contaminants based on the industry type.
Equalization and Flow Balancing
Industrial wastewater flow and pollution load may vary during the day depending on production activity. Equalization helps balance the wastewater flow and pollutant concentration before it enters the main treatment process, ensuring stable and efficient treatment.
Primary Treatment and Contaminant Removal
In this stage, large particles, floating matter, suspended solids, oil, grease, and settleable impurities are removed. This prepares the effluent for further chemical or biological treatment and reduces the load on the next treatment stages.
Chemical Treatment and pH Correction
Depending on the effluent characteristics, chemical treatment may be used to neutralize pH, remove dissolved pollutants, separate fine suspended particles, reduce colour, and improve wastewater quality. Coagulation and flocculation may be used to combine smaller impurities into larger particles for easier removal.
Biological Treatment and Organic Load Reduction
The biological treatment stage helps reduce organic pollutants from industrial wastewater. Microbial activity breaks down biodegradable contaminants and helps lower BOD, COD, odor, and organic load, making the effluent safer for further treatment, reuse, or discharge.
Filtration, Polishing and Final Water Management
After primary, chemical, and biological treatment, the water passes through filtration and polishing stages to improve final output quality. The treated water can then be directed for safe discharge or suitable reuse based on the system design and applicable norms.
